Why this one divides people
Cold-weather chores are ranked by how early in the morning they happen. Scraping ice usually leads, because it arrives when you are already late, already cold and wearing exactly the wrong gloves. The laundry answer is quietly popular with anyone living somewhere damp, where clothes hang for days and the whole flat smells faintly of it. Wet shoes are the same problem in miniature, with the added cruelty of having to put them back on. Path clearing is heavy work but at least it feels productive. Bundling up children is the answer from anyone who has done it twice before breakfast.
