Privacy Policy — Hivemind

The short version

There is no account, so we never ask for your name, your email or anything else that identifies you. Your answers are sent to our server — that is how the crowd percentages exist at all — but they arrive as nothing more than one added to a counter, with no identifier of any kind attached. Your streak and your last result never leave your device. There is nowhere on this site to type anything, so nothing you wrote can be published, because you cannot write anything.

What happens to your answers

Your Hive Sync score is worked out in your browser. When a run finishes, your ten picks are sent to our server and recorded only as anonymous per-option counters: each question holds one number per answer option plus a total, and finishing a run adds one to ten of those numbers.

Nothing is stored alongside them — no user id, no session, no IP address, no timestamp, no record that any particular run happened. A finished run is indistinguishable from ten unrelated answers arriving separately, and there is no row anywhere in our data that represents a person. Nothing can be traced back to you, including by us.

Those counters are the crowd dataset the whole game is built on, so we keep them indefinitely: they are what the percentages are made of, and deleting them would delete the product. Because they contain no identifier, keeping them holds nothing personal about you.

Your device's IP address reaches our servers as part of any web request, as it must for the page to be delivered at all. We do not record it against your answers and we do not keep it in our data.

What stays on your device

Two entries in your browser's localStorage, on this device only. Neither is a cookie, and neither is ever transmitted anywhere:

Because these live only in your browser, they are also the only thing there is to erase: clearing this site's data resets your streak and forgets your result, and we have no copy to restore it from.

Share cards & shared links

When you share a result, the link carries a short token in its address (/v?s=…), and our server draws that token into a preview image at /og/hive.png so the link unfurls as a card in chats and social apps.

The token encodes only the date you played, your Hive Sync score, and which of the day's options you picked for each of the ten questions. It carries no identifier and no text — and it structurally cannot carry text, because this product has no text input on any screen. Rendering a card is a plain function of the token; it stores nothing.

Anyone you send the link to can see that card, so share it only where you would like it seen. Opening a shared link shows the recipient the game's landing screen, not your run.

Who else is involved

We keep the list of third parties as short as we can, and this is all of it:

Our typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font CDN, so loading a page does not announce your visit to a font provider. There is no other embedded third-party content: no social widgets, no trackers beyond the two Google products named above, and no first-party cookies of our own.

Advertising & cookies

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Consent is collected through Google's certified consent-management platform, and advertising storage stays denied until you make a choice in it.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time, and you can clear cookies in your browser.

Your rights under the GDPR

If you are in the UK or the EEA you have the right of access to your personal data, and the rights to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing — including to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

In practice we hold no account and no identified record of you, so there is normally nothing of yours for us to hand over, correct or delete: the answer counters carry no identifier that could single you out, and everything else lives in your own browser, where clearing site data erases it immediately. Ask us anyway and we will tell you honestly what exists.

Your rights under the CCPA / CPRA

If you are a California resident you have the right to:

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the advertising and analytics providers named above, and we never collect sensitive personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below; you may also use an authorised agent.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will look into it and delete whatever we find.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page. That date is the one reliable way to tell whether what you are reading is current.
