A group chat is a shared room with no door policy, which is why quietly adding a stranger to it lands as the headline offence. Suddenly forty messages of context belong to someone nobody vetted. Close behind is the person who taps a reaction on a long, careful message, technically acknowledging it while contributing nothing. Others reserve their real anger for the thread archaeologist who answers a question from Tuesday on Friday, reviving a conversation everyone had gratefully buried. The offences are small individually. In a chat of nine people they compound, which is exactly why this argument never resolves.
