Why this one divides people
Everyone has a coat-grabbing line, and most of them are variations on the same theme: an obligation that starts painfully early tomorrow. It works because nobody can argue with a calendar. But a serious number of people reach instead for something physical, because a headache ends a conversation faster than a schedule does, and nobody asks follow-up questions. Then there are the logistics people, who genuinely are worried about the drive, and the pet owners, who have the only excuse in the world that is almost always true. The fun part is that everyone recognises all of these, and uses them anyway.
